THE SECRET TO LG'S SUCCESS
May 1, 2008
LG says it should now be considered one of the top mobile manufacturers in the business following the launch of its latest handset, the LG Secret.
The Secret becomes the third addition to the manufacturer’s Black Label Series portfolio joining the Chocolate and Shine.
LG mobile sales and marketing director John Barton says that the company’s busy start to the year, which has seen it release three other touch sensitive devices (KF510, KF600 and KF700) has laid down a marker to its competitors.
“We’ve seen an increase in operating margin of over 13.5 per cent in Q1 this year, compared to an average of nine per cent over a quarter last year,” he said. "We’ve exploded out of the blocks this year.
“Apart from the Chocolate, which overrode into 2007, we only released eight other handsets last year. This year we’ve stepped up and I envision us releasing up to 20 products. A lot of people have considered us a challenger brand, but we’ve shown this is no longer the case. We’re part of the top-tier bunch and we’ll continue to push on from that.”
Barton added that the Secret is a step up from the Chocolate and Shine and is confident that this handset could give LG the most momentum this year, even outselling its predecessors.
“The Secret, unlike the other two, doesn’t just rely and depend on its design; it also delivers incredible features and functionality," he said.
“The Chocolate has sold over 18 million units worldwide with the Shine selling seven million. I’m confident that the Secret will sell in that kind of magnitude; all the networks, retailers and distributors all want it and are very excited about it.
The 11.8mm thick Secret, which LG says is the slimmest 5-megapixel cameraphone on the market, comes with neon touchscreen navigation buttons with users able to access music, photos, games documents and the FM radio from the touchscreen.
It comes in a durable casing of carbon fibre and tampered LCD screen and can record up to 120 video frames per second. A Google package is also preloaded onto the handset that enables users to surf the internet, log onto Gmail, use Google Maps and watch YouTube videos.
The Secret is expected to launch across all channels at the end of the month.
